(What's Your Fantasy Life with Faolaodh)

Mabinogi is a game where Milletians can become the greatest hero, save Erinn from constant destruction, but fail gathering water. Milletians are what make Mabinogi great and we want to hear your story. We have one simple question for each and every one of you: What's Your Fantasy Life? Submit your story via this form.
For this edition of What's Your Fantasy Life, we spoke to Faolaodh!

How long have you been playing Mabinogi?
I started my journey in Erinn during the summer of 2014, a year after I was initially introduced to the game. I technically started in 2013, but I only played a couple weeks, and I made a fresh account for the adventure I'm on now. After the mentioned year of being gone, I actually missed Mabinogi since it scratched a particular itch.
What is your favorite talent and why?
Specifically Arcana, it's Elemental Knight. It's the actual "talent" I've been wanting in the game for years. Ever since I used the Merlin Shyllien Mana Knuckles, I thought to myself, "I'd really love a talent/sword that can use Close Combat and Intermediate Magic as smoothly as this." And well, here we are! My favorite magical element in fantasy is Lightning too; so Instill Thunder, between the lightning effect upon weaponry and the Instill benefits, is a dream come true. My forever Arcana.
What is your favorite memory of Mabinogi?
It's hard to say. I treasure a lot of moments from my experiences in Erinn and even love the moments I create today as much as I do in the past. But... I know a real funny one. When I was new and understood very little of the game and its functions, a newly made friend at the time took me to the Connous Desert, took my weapons and armor and left me stranded. I didn't know where the nearest Mana Tunnel was nor did I use a pet since I thought the, for example, one hour thirty minute timer was forever on a pet and not reset daily. So instead I wandered the open desert and avoided certain enemies. It's kind of like that one mission in Metal Gear Solid 2. You know the one! It was a prank; I got my stuff back, no hassle and the mentioned friend is actually now one of my best friends! Has been actually; awesome person.
Are you in a guild?
Indeed! I'm the Leader of Oaks. We formed recently (3/11/24) and I have some of the most wonderful people alongside me. I trust them, enjoy their company, and treasure their friendship. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for all of them supporting not only myself but each other! If you ever catch an Oaks member, know you're in good company.

What's your favorite guild memory?
While there's still more opportunities to come, so far it was when I had a great turnout for the Camping Trip I hosted for my guild and friends! With minimal to no speed boosts, mounts etcetera, many of my guildies and our friends walked from Tara's southern wall gate, to Port Ceann, landed at the Connous Port, walked through the desert to the Oasis, north across the Errans Gorge, and then headed west to land at the Cor Metallurgy beach. Along the way, we camped at various spots; made campfires with wood we got from trees on the trip, made food with ingredients we prepped ahead of time (I made S'mores~) without using Food Trucks, chatted a lot, and played tons of music. We dressed up in "traveling attire" as well, many of us wearing backpacks too. We even picked up a couple stragglers along the way and made new friends! It was a wonderful way to separate ourselves from the hustle in combat content and return to more simple yet connecting activities. In tandem with the sense of wanderlust the world of Erinn can give you, heading out with your buds and taking it easy really delivers the other half of what Mabinogi's about: being social!
Who's your favorite character?
Laighlinne. Ruairi and Edern are up there, but Laighlinne is my #1 by far. She's my blorbo, my little guy. I want the best for her in the world of Erinn, despite her being you know... dead. I hope that beyond her last story she wished to tell, something she mentioned as part of 2023's Samhain event, she has a place in Erinn to visit us more. She became my favorite between understanding her story and character, and also her lines as a Partner. She's just happy to be around and to be your friend, and that touched me deeply. Safe to say that after many years of waiting for her to return, I lost my mind when I saw her standing at Port Ceann. You'll realize that my Twitter name tracks, and that my name in the guild Discord is "The Average Laighlinne Enjoyer".
How has Mabinogi effected your life?
In multitudes. I've met so, so many wonderful individuals playing Mabinogi. I've been led to other games which have provided even more wonderful times. I met the love of my life in Mabinogi. I met many who I call my best friend; I've been given and took advantage of so many opportunities to grow as a person, not just through maturity but bolstering my own sense of self and confidence. I also grew heavily interested in Celtic Mythology, and even underwent a slow but steady journey to learn the languages descended from the Celtics, and learn more about the history and the myths. So, whenever Mabinogi gets an update that adds more Celtic or Celtic-inspired lore and features, it only gets cooler to me. Speaking of, my name means Wolf Fire (Faol + Aodh), pronounced "fwoil-ay" essentially. As for Project Eternity? The most impressive and heartwarming news I've ever heard for a game in my life. I'm excited. I'm more than eager. I fully understand that both Mabinogi and my time within it hasn't been perfect, but what is perfect anyway? I'm sure we all understand. When it comes to the MMORPG space, it's my home.
What's your advice to new players?
Find people. Even if you have apprehensions or scars, give it a chance. The memories you'll create, the bonds you form, and the lessons you'll learn will be worth it. Not an easy journey, but you may just come out the other side better. We never stop growing.
