(What's Your Fantasy Life with KINGOFSORROW)

Mabinogi is a game where Milletians can become the greatest hero, save Erinn from constant destruction, but fail gathering water. Milletians are what make Mabinogi great and we want to hear your story. We have one simple question for each and every one of you: What's Your Fantasy Life? Submit your story via this form.
For this edition of What's Your Fantasy Life, we spoke to KINGOFSORROW!

How long have you been playing Mabinogi?
I am an old soul in Mabinogi, having begun my adventure in late August 2008 at 15 years old. When Pioneers of Iria launched, I thought Elves and Giants were really cool, and took a chance on them. I was one of the first wave Milletian Elves on the Tarlach server, and represented them for a long time up until just recently, where I switched to playing a human.
What is your favorite talent and why?
I have dueling favorite Talents, actually! Magic and Alchemy. The long and short of it is that I am a tabletop and Arthurian legend nerd. I love Mabinogi's spin on Animism and Druidism in regards to Spirit Weapons and natural forces in magic, and blowing stuff up fantastically is a lot of fun. The thaumaturgic aspect of Alchemy, especially with synthesis and the mysteries surrounding Erg, are also very engaging to me. I like turning gold into more gold. It's... oddly satisfying.
I also main Elemental Knight. I like to pair it with Dual Cylinders and become the Vanguard of any party I am in. Its tremendous mobility and crowd control compliment Flame Burst and other skills from Alchemy very well.
What is your favorite memory of Mabinogi?
Though I struggle to pick just one, my favorite rides the coattails of my origins. I was taught everything I know by a player named Einhander. Sadly, they passed away a little after Hamlet was introduced. I promised him I would sign his Rosemary Gloves, since he wanted the Sword of Elsinore and dual wielding was his aesthetic. Even after he was long gone, I kept it up and even recently finished my goal. The Elsinore I wield is a Spirit Weapon named after him.
Now that you have context, my favorite memory was when the first time a player approached me asking to teach them how to play. It reminded me so much of how I met him, and I was seen as 'good enough' now to do that. I hope I continue to do him proud.
Are you in a guild? If so, what is your most memorable Guild memory?
My first home was made with the Agitators. Back then, we took the game and our little rivalries very seriously. One of my favorite AND most memorable moments was when we randomly threw down against Dreams in the Guild vs Guild for castle and wound up crushing one of the more powerful groups of players on Tarlach at the time. No hard feelings now, I hope!
Today, I play with Lethaldrive. They're a 10+ year old community native to Tarlach who help to run the player-driven fairs. When I came back, it was the Summer Fair and the experience stuck with me enough that I wanted to help in the future. They were even kind enough to help me finish out my Rosemary Glove goal by lending me a quality tailoring kit to ensure the signature stuck. I intend to make some fun new memories along the way as we step into the Eternity Update.

Do you have a favorite character, Generation Story, or place in Erinn?
All three! I am enamored by the dream creatures known as Incubus in Mabinogi, to the point my character looks like one. I was delighted to learn even a little more about them after G25. My favorite and simultaneously least favorite location in the game would be Stratford-Upon-Avon. Much like Shakespeare, it was my prison for close to a decade. If not favorite, definitely where I spent most of my time. Before that, it was Metus Canyon. And before that, it was the Castle Dungeons. (Can you guess why?) As for NPCs, I would have to give that to Elatha for the older cast, and now recently "Vayne" and Loiscneach.
I am drawn to characters that grapple with loss, nihilism, or uncontrollable fate; ESPECIALLY the more aloof variety. I am very curious to see what awaits our overly cautious mountain keeper. As for the other.. Well, you'll just have to meet him for yourself if you haven't.
How has Mabinogi affected your life?
It would be easier to answer how it hasn't, in all honesty. Mabinogi came to me in a period of my life where I was grappling with above average teenage angst. To make a long story short, there were a number of deaths in my immediate family/friends, a lot of secondary education and military school, and personal identity issues I was grappling with that culminated in me needing an outlet for escapism that wasn't tragic in some way. As weird as it was, the larger than life struggles and pathos of Erinn, the colorful and willful players I met, and the unprecedented control over your actions through personal skill and game knowledge made me very immersed and dedicated, grounding me to something I could look forward to. I even made some real mistakes along the way meeting people in game who, in retrospect, took advantage of me. I'm also grateful to them for teaching me how to navigate that in adulthood. Mabinogi was, at the end of the day, another life like our own with its ups and downs. It gave me the courage to step beyond my small suburban town into a much bigger world I wasn't quite ready for, but certainly willing to try. And well, here I am. Looking abroad with the spirit of adventure the Milletians instilled guiding my curiosity pretty much to this day. And now that I can say that I play purely for fun, it got even better!
Being an old soul, what advice do you have for new Milletians?
You will probably feel obligated to 'catch up' to your peers as a new Milletian. Believe me when I say, that isn't the best path forward sometimes. Erinn is a big place, and there's so much to do you will very easily overwhelm yourself if you try and take it on all at once. So, I recommend you do what I did and find the coolest person in town and try and punch them in the nose to establish dominance when they tell you to just do Blaanid. She can help you catch up, but you won't have any idea how to apply all that power on your lonesome. So pace yourself and find a friend who'll humor you!
Maybe I don't remember her being there when I met Einhander, but that's how my story began, anyway. And that was the most fun one sided fight I think I ever experienced in my Fantasy Life. Where it all 'clicked.' Here's to uh, hoping your special duel is out there, too.
